NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN TOURISM MANAGEMENT (NDTM)

 
The NDTM programme is a professionally oriented course aimed at supporting the development of competencies essential to the successful functioning of the graduate at the operational and supervisory levels in the tourism industry. The programme curriculum is based on the modular system and each module contains sub modules that help the learner understand how to perform core tasks in their profession. The curriculum is intended to produce graduates with competences in:
  1. Site guiding
  2. Safari guiding
  3. Tourist driving
  4. Nature Interpretation
  5. Birding
  6. Itinerary planning, tour packaging and costing
  7. Camping and Camp management
  8. Bookings and reservations
  9. First aid and Safety management
  10. Travel management
  11. Museums and monument management
  12. Patriotism and paramilitary skills.
Admission Requirements  Candidates for admission will be required to possess a minimum of:
  1. Two principal pass at UACE and a subsidiary pass obtained at the same sitting
  2. Any other qualification considered by the Admission Committee of TVET
Duration of the Programme
The programme is a full-time programme taught for a period of two (2) academic years. Each academic year will consist of two semesters comprised of seventeen (17) weeks. Programme-level Learning Outcomes  The graduate must be able to:
  1. Competently guide tourists
  2. Plan, package and cost tours
  3. Market the tourism product to tourists
  4. Understand and appreciate the role of tourism in the economic development of nations
  5. Work as Travel Assistants.
  6. Understand current hotel services on a national and international level
  7. Sensitive to the needs of the tourists and competently to assess them
  8. Operate within the tourism organization’s social, economic, and legal constraints
  9. Work as part of a diverse team in the provision and delivery of tourism services;
Prospects of NDTM trainees The graduates will be able to work in the following areas in operational positions:

  12. Other service industry businesses due to a good service attitude
